NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK SUMMER LEAGUE

After our great start to the season two more matches have been played since the last reports and Hundon are right on course to win promotion if we can keep the great form going.

On 21st May Haverhill came to Hundon to take on our team of Ben Stephens/ Dominic Holmes and Sean O'Neil/Alan Weston. Hundon were comfortable winners with both pairs winning 3 of their 4 sets to give Hundon a 6-2 victory.

On 4th June Thetford, who have joined the league this season and were an unknown quantity came to Hundon, this time Hundon's team being Ben Stephens/Will Aviedeck and Dominic Holmes/Mike Freed. Thetford played some good tennis but were no match for a strong Hundon side with Ben and Will winning all 4 of their sets and Dominic and Mike winning 3. Result Hundon 7 Thetford 1.

At the halfway stage of this years league Hundon have now won 5, drawn 1 and lost none.

   Hundon Hawks

HUNDON HAWKS

Originally formed in 2004 as an under 12 team out from the remnants of Glemsford Gladiators under 11's, the Hundon Hawks have grown rapidly to the extent that season 2007/2008 will feature 6 teams at different age groups playing in the Cambridgeshire mini league and Cambs Colts Leagues.

Hawks best year ever in terms of results so far. Despite dropping back from 6 to 5 teams, the club is in great shape, the only big disappointment having been the weather which has disrupted the season and left a couple of the teams with too many matches to play between now and the end of the season.
In mini league football:- The under 9s under new management this year have struggled a bit and have not won any games however, there are definite signs of improvement as scores are getting closer. The under 10s have had a storming season and sit 2nd in their league however as at mid March they still have more than half of their games to play,

In 11-a-side football, the under 12s have been the surprise package. Having won less than a handful of games at mini league level, they have already won 5 this season and sit comfortably in mid table. This is a great effort from Terry Loosley's team especially as they only have a tiny squad of players (anybody know of any players available at that age group?)

The under 14s after a promising end to last season have probably slightly underperformed however they have won 5 and drawn 2 of their 15 games played so far and also sit comfortably mid table.
Tony Wheeler's under 16s go from strength to strength. Having seemingly missed out on promotion on goal difference last season, they started the season with 2 big wins only to have them wiped out as Cambs FA decided to restructure the league after a month of the season (imagine what Alex Ferguson would say if thai happened to Manchester United?).

Hawks then found themselves in the higher league anyway but have coped admirably and despite a very weather interrupted season (at one point only playing 3 games in 12 weeks) the team are 5th in their league but with the 2nd best "points dropped" record in the league. If they win all of their remaining games, they will win it, however they still have 11 games to play and 2 of those against top side Mildenhall. The under 16s also had a wonderful Cambs County Cup run defeating 2 sides from the league above before losing narrowly to top of divn A side Willingham (who are unbeaten in several years) 1-0 in the semi final.

If you want to support the Hundon Hawks, the under 9s and 10s play Saturday mornings around the Village Hall, the under 12s and 14s play Sundays at Motts Field in Haverhill and the under 16s at Clare.
